Coca-Cola, Honda, Unilever, Ford, Starbucks and Microsoft are some other major cooperation’s that have suspended advertising on Facebook and Instagram. The platform has been criticized many times for their lax rules and lack of transparency on what can and can’t be posted by its users.
What is #StopHateForProfit and How is it related to Facebook Advertising?
Last month, many civil rights and non-profit organizations got together and asked big businesses to pause or stop their advertisements spends on Facebook and Instagram. Around a week later, this campaign got its momentum and companies such as Unilever and Hershey’s joining it.
The #StopHateForProfit opposes how Facebook has allowed for the manipulation of the electorates to be used as a source of trustworthy news through posts inciting violence against demonstrators fighting for racial justice; has called for a broad-based boycott of publications associated with white supremacist groups.
PlayStation said in a statement: “In support of the #StopHateForProfit campaign, we have globally suspended our Facebook and Instagram activity, including advertising and non-paid content, until the end of July. We stand for working (and playing) together for good.”
