World’s ‘Biggest’ Games Cheating Ring Busted !

For as long as there have been games, there has been cheats. Whether it’s for personal modification or online fraud, cheating in games have been a part for a long time. These cheating rings might not affect day to day users or even small to moderate scale gaming firms but, big giants like Tencent are ruining their profits and hindering with the operations. According to a survey done in 2019, around a third of gamers admit to using cheats to have an unfair advantage in the games.

Recently, a collab operation of Chinese Police and Tencent, has led to bust of one of the biggest gaming cheating ring. The operation was code named ‘Chicken Drumstick . The gang was allegedly caught designing and selling cheats of Overwatch and Call of Duty Mobile. Authorities demolished 17 cheats and captured ten suspects in various cities, including one of the gang’s founders.

These cheats were sold to the players on a subscription fee which started at $10/day to $200 per month. It is estimated that the gang has roughly $76 Million in revenue. Police found and destroyed 17 cheats and arrested 10 people in connection with the ring and is said to be the “world’s biggest” cheating case due to the large sums of money and games involved.

This bust proves that the online gaming and tournament cheating are not only profitable but also has become a major concerns for big giants like Tencent.
