League of Legends disables the feature to lower the toxicity in the community.

After almost a decade of community banter in League of Legends, Riot Games have taken the decision to disable its /all chat feature. This is being done to lower the amount of toxicity in the game’s community.

League of Legends has over the years become one of the most popular games available for PC. For quite some time, the game’s community has been known in the gaming circles as being one of the most toxic. Riot Games have been trying to implement measures to deal with it, in recent years.

It is as a measure to reduce the toxicity amongst the players’ community that they have decided to do so. The /all chat feature has been a part of the game for a really long time. And hence Riot Games took to the League of Legends website to explain to its community why they have decided to do so.

Speaking of the feature, they said that while the feature had been a very good place for some light hearted fun and banter between the teams as well as a place for social interaction, presently, “negative interactions outweigh the positives”. They also further said that they would be evaluating “the impact of this change through verbal abuse reports and penalty rates as well as surveys and direct feedbacks” from the community.

Riot Games further said that members of the team will still be able to talk to each other when the game ends. They also assured players that would now not have to worry much about people shouting obscenities at them in capital letters.

Riot Games have stated that this disabling is just a test phase and depending upon the feedback that they receive, they may or may not reverse this change. They further said that they knew “this sucks for those of you who just want to compliment your lane opponent’s skin or ask for a dance party in Baron pit” However, they believe that “the trade-off is worth it to cut down on the growing negativity /all chat has been creating in your games”.

It still remains to be seen how, if at all, this new update will be instrumental in cutting down the abuse, harassment and toxicity that is currently present in the game. Or it is at all reduces the toxicity in the game at all.
