Remedy Entertainment, the studio behind the cult classic Alan Wake, will be partnering up with Tencent to develop a free to ‘play multiplayer shooter.

Remedy Entertainment announced, for the first time, the details of its upcoming co-operative multiplayer game. The game has, as of now, been codenamed Vanguard. The announcement stated that the game will be published by Tencent.

The announcement describes the game codenamed Vanguard (referred to as “the game”) as, “Remedy’s original intellectual property, is a free-to-play, co-operative PvE shooter that combines Remedy’s narrative expertise and action gameplay into an immersive multiplayer experience”. The game developed using the Unreal Engine 5, will be Remedy Entertainment’s first foray into developing a title that is games-as-service.

The team that is responsible for developing this new game had been assembled by Remedy way back in 2018, for the sole purpose of developing such an ongoing live PvE multiplayer game, states the studio.

As per the announcement, “The game’s development is currently in the proof-of-concept phase”, which means that it is still in the very early stages of development. The announcement further states that the development will be, “co-financed by Remedy and Tencent. In addition, Tencent will localize the game for the selected Asian markets and cover the related localization costs”. Additionally, the announcement stated that, “Remedy and Tencent will be responsible for their own publishing and game operating costs in their respective territories while sharing a portion of revenue to the other party after the recoupment of the development costs“.

Vanguard however is not the only project that Remedy Entertainment is currently working on. The development studio is also currently working on a new story mode for CrossfireX, the studio’s free to play shooter title. The trailer for the same was revealed earlier this month.

In addition to this, Remedy is also going back to its own IP, with the recently revealed sequel, namely Alan Wake 2. This will be marking the studio’s first true sequel, after it released Max Payne 2, back in the year 2003.

The announcement for Vanguard (or whatever the final title of the game will be), does not mention any possible dates for when the game will be launching. However, as per the announcement, the game, will be releasing for PC as well as consoles.
