Skyrim player brings Solutide to life, in their painting.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is probably one of the most visually stunning games there are. And while it has, over the years, aged, mods and updates have ensured that it keeps aging well. One of the most pleasing locations in the game that everyone will agree on is, undoubtedly, the city of Solitude.

Players cannot deny the fact that when they are first arriving that Solitude, their first view of the city is absolutely breath taking. The exterior part of the city that has been built directly onto the rock in Haafingar is bound to mesmerise anyone who sets their eyes on it.

This might very well be the reason why one certain Skyrim fan decided to paint the same, on their canvas. For the ongoing Inktober challenge, Reddit user u/LongFineArt painted their first view of the city of Solitude, in watercolours. The painting was uploaded to the subReddit dedicated to Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim.

The painting is made from the perspective of the “player”, who is standing at the docks, of what most likely seems to be the Karth river. The most striking aspect of the painting is that the time of the day of the painting is either dusk or dawn. The sun is just behind the city and the entire scene is lit up with a soft purplish light. LongFineArt has even added the in-game compass to the top of the painting, ensuring that they are painstakingly as close to the game’s visual as possible.

The Inktober is a yearly online challenge that happens on the month of October, every year. Through daily prompts, it encourages artists to practice and improve upon their ink painting skills. The Solitude painting from Skyrim isn’t LongFineArt’s first painting, this October. They say that, so far, for this year’s Inktober challenge, they have been painting “fanart of my favorite movies and games”.

LongFineArt says that the Inktober prompt for the day was “compass”, so they painted “Solitude with the compass up top”. While the thread does not, as of yet, have many comments, the few that are there have wholeheartedly praised the artwork. One user commented that they “like the small details like making sure the ropes were “2d” around the posts instead of sticking out with modded Skyrim”.
