This new upgrade will be rolled out for all the Nvidia Shield set-top boxes. This includes the original models which had released back in 2015, and originally ran on Android 5.0 Lollipop, back when it had first launched.

With this latest upgrade, the popular Nvidia Shield set-top box will become one of the most upgraded Android devices that were ever released. To get a better understanding, we can look at it like this. The Samsung Galaxy S6 could be a comparable Android device that came out in 2015. The phone, however, only ever made it up to Android Nougat (Android 7.0).

In addition to the OS getting upgraded to Android 11, the new Shield Software Experience Upgrade 9.0 will also bring with it other benefits as well. For one, Nvidia will be switching over to the Gboard keyboard by Google by default, for text entry, thus making the usage of Google Assistant in text fields, easier. Bluetooth support has been upgraded as well. Support for Bluetooth aptX has been added and Bluetooth devices will automatically get disconnected, once the Nvidia Shield goes into sleep mode.
