To The Rescue, made by a developer couple, draws inspiration from games such as Prison Architect and Stardew Valley.
To The Rescue is at its heart a dog shelter management simulator game, that has been made by the indie development studio, Little Rock Games. The game is all about managing a dog shelter, taking care of the dogs that are there and even encouraging people to adopt dogs from the shelter.
When a new video game is under development, its developers try very hard to ensure that their game stands out from all the others that are already available in the market. However, they also draw inspiration from a host of different games, which on playing players can find an essence of, when playing this new game. That has been the case for To The Rescue, as well.
Developer couple, Tanner Marshall and Olivia Dunlap, the ones behind Little Rock Games, have opened up about the games that have inspired them to build their own game, in an interview with Game Rant. They say that they had started working on the game as a hobby, during their undergrad days. However, seeing the potential the game had, they decided to expand upon it, more seriously.
To The Rescue Lets You Run A Dog Shelter And Save Dogs, Virtually
The developers revealed that parts of their game have drawn much inspiration from already existing games, such as, Prison Architect, Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley. These games are all life simulator experiences that have varied styles and mechanics that set them apart from one another.
Speaking of what sets To The Rescue apart from the life simulators it draws inspiration from, the developers say that they want to represent “some of the harder things in running a dog shelter”. And hence they have decided to introduce the sensitive subject of Euthanasia. It is, in their words, to respectfully show the difficult decisions that shelter runners much take, in many cases. Players, however, can opt to not choose this option.
