Who doesn’t love an expansive and immersive open world RPG? Talking of this genre, might start debates with PC users claiming that the PC offers the most immersive experience over consoles. They might yet be right. The genre has been gaining popularity on PC much before consoles. While consoles have only fairly recently perfected the art of presenting Open World RPGs, while their PC counterparts had mastered it early on.

So here we are with our list of our all-time favourites from the genre.

5. Red Dead Redemption 2

On number 5 we have Red Dead Redemption 2. The third game in the Red Dead series and the prequel to the events of Red Dead Redemption, the game follows convicted outlaw Arthur Morgan as he sets to clear his name. The engaging gameplay, the choice between third person and first person narratives and the often times funny and strange glitches make it one of our very favourite Open World RPGs to play.

4. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

This spot was a tough one and we chose to go with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for number 4 on our list. While every game in the The Witcher series has our heart, this one has it a little more than the others. The third main instalment in the series, here we follow Geralt of Rivia on his exploits to save his adopted daughter Ciri before the Wild Hunt can claim her. With more freedom of choices, solid storyline and an engaging gameplay and a host of NPCs, this is one Open World RPG we would love to spend our days playing.

3. Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

For number 3 on the list, we have Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. The fifth main instalment game in the Elder Scrolls franchise, the game is the sequel to Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. It takes place almost 200 years after the events of its predecessor and takes place in, as the name suggests, Skyrim. The location is Tamriel’s northernmost province. The game follows the Dragonborn on their quest to defeat the dragon Alduin the World Eater who has been prophesised will destroy the world. Once again a solid storyline, exquisite visuals, amazing gameplay makes this game probably one of the most immersive and engaging Open World RPGs there is.

2. Assassin's Creed Valhalla

Is there ever any list for the top Open World RPG that is complete if there is no mention of Assassin’s Creed? Obviously, not! So here we are, with our favourite from the franchise. It was really hard to pick just one but we were slightly partial to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla over the others. The twelfth main game in the series and the successor to Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, the game takes us back again to experience the centuries old rivalry between the Templars and the Assassin Brotherhood. This time it is set in the British Isles during 872-878 AD. The spot for number 2 on our top picks list, we feel, could belong to no other game.

1. Grand Theft Auto V

We now come to our number 1. And for us, Grand Theft Auto V will be it! This is probably because the Grand Theft Auto games have been around for so long. The games with their settings based on real locations, their plots almost always centred on vengeance, revenge or rising through the ranks of the underworld ranks are engaging and immersive. Is it therefore any surprise that since its release, Grand Theft Auto V is still one of the most sold video game title? What we love most about this Open World RPG is its context specific activities and the freedom of choice.
