The event initially named as Steam Game Festival was started to give gamers a chance to get over the void of the absence of in-person gaming events and developer events that got cancelled or postponed due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Valve changed the name of the event to Steam Next Fest with the June 2021 event.
Events such as this have been playing a very significant role for both gamers as well as the developers. These events create a great opportunity for developers. It gives them an opportunity to get direct feedback from the gamers themselves. This is because in addition to giving the players access to demos for the game, it also includes livestreams with the game developers. The event will be going live on October 1, 2021 at 1:00 PM ET and will continue till October 7, 2021.
