BioShock 4 was officially confirmed by the publishers 2K Games.
The unofficial name for the latest BioShock game that was officially confirmed by 2K Games is BioShock 4. The publishers confirmed that its new studio Cloud Chamber Studios is responsible for the development of the game.
The first time that anyone had heard about a new game in the BioShock franchise was in 2019. The official announcement came after a host of rumours were doing the rounds that a new BioShock game is under development.
However, publishers 2K Games stated it very clearly that while the game was underway, it will still be “in development for the next several years”. So while the good news is that a new game in the franchise is in the works, the bad news that fans will just have to wait it out for quite some time now, for the launch.
While rumours abound, there have been precious little official sources that we can rely on, when it comes to the updates for BioShock 4. Many were hoping that this would change this year. However, that has not happened yet. However, here is all that we know so far.
BioShock 4 the unofficial name for the next in the retro-futuristic BioShock franchise is being developed by Cloud Chamber Studios and published by 2K Games. The release date for the game is yet to be confirmed. The platforms where the game will be available is yet to be confirmed as well. However, the PC, the Xbox Series X and the PS5 could be likely.
BioShock 4 Announcement
A lot of rumours are doing the rounds. One of the biggest was a major leak from Nvidia GeForce Now that included a listing for BioShock 2022. Many speculated that it could be related to the upcoming game in the franchise, BioShock 4. However, Nvidia acknowledged the leak. In a statement to Wccftech said, “Nvidia is aware of an unauthorized published game list, with both released and/or speculative titles, used only for internal tracking and testing. Inclusion on the list is neither confirmation nor an announcement of any game”.
Cloud Chamber Studios had recently posted a job listing for a Senior Gameplay Programmer. With this many are speculating that the game is being developed on Epic’s Unreal Engine 5. The ad stated that the candidate will “work within Unreal Engine 5 adapting existing systems and building new technology in order to fulfil the project’s technical needs and creative goals”. This could bode well for how the final game will look on next gen consoles, especially going by the recent demo footage that Epic released.
Another rumour that is doing the rounds is that the next BioShock game could be an open world. The rumour is fuelled by job listings released by Cloud Chamber Studios. One of the ads stated the developers are actively seeking for someone “who can weave impactful, character-driven stories in an open world setting”. Another ad indicated that the new game could have an “urban crowd system” that has a “systemic tribal ecology” that will be backed by a “sometimes hostile AI”. The ad also mentioned that the candidate must be able to “push the envelope of what is possible with interactive crowd systems”.
While not much official information about the game is available to us, currently, a lot can be said about the game and how it might turn out to be, based on the job listings that are being posted by the developers.
