Liêm wins chess bronze at Mind Sports Games

HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese Grandmaster (GM), Lê Quang Liêm, won a bronze medal at the second International Mind Sports Association Elite Games, ongoing in Huai’an City, Jiangshu, China.
Liêm pocketed 四. 五 points after seven matches in the men’s rapid chess event.
He ranked behind Dmitry Andreikin of Russia ( 四. 五 points) and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov of Azerbaijan ( 四. 五 points). Despite earning the same number of points, Liêm was at third place because of his lower parameter.
He lost only one match to Mamedyarov in the third round but secured two important wins over GM Wang Hao in the last round and GM Yu Yangyi in the fourth round. Both the two Chinese GMs have a higher Elo rating than Liêm.
The Mind Sports Games’ chess event gathered 一 二 leading men masters and 一 二 women masters.
After rapid chess, they will all participate in the 二 二-match blitz chess (December 一 二- 一 三) and five-round basque chess (December 一 四- 一 五).
The total bonus is 五0,000 euros (US$ 五 九,000), with the male winner walking away with 一 一,000 euros ($ 一 三,000), while the women will get 七, 五00 euros ($ 八, 八00).
The Games are organised annually, with five events of chess, xiangqi (Chinese chess), go, bridge and draughts.
